Mr Henry Vusi Masinga begins his retirement life as at June 1, 2018. He retires after 30 years of faithful service with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works as a Senior Administrative Clerk within Head Office Supply Chain Management. Mr Masinga joined the Department on 20 January 1988 as an ordinary ‘cleaner’, moved up the ranks to his current position. It was between 1989 and 1992 when his work life began to show some light on his future, taking into account that the Public Works moved its Head Office from Natalia Building to the Oliver Tambo House today.
A farewell party was arranged on Wednesday 30 May 2018 at UMgungundlovu District where all those close to him for some time had an opportunity for a special and exclusive interaction. It is without doubt that Mr Masinga will acknowledge and understand that his colleagues, peers and management took that precious moment to let him know how interesting it was working with someone like him and to say goodbye. For sure, it has been an honour working with a wonderful colleague like him these past years. Thanks to his help and kindness. We wish him all the best of luck and continued success wherever he may find himself.
“Victory is having done your best. If you have done your best, you have won,” Bill Bowerman’s quote seeks to soothe our minds and hearts to acknowledge and accept that Mr Masinga will indeed be leaving for the well-deserved retirement. It may be appropriate to label him as ‘a man of all seasons’ on the basis that his character has for the years gone, been a mirror of a workaholic, quiet, cool, elegant, soft-spoken, diligent, simple but best colleague, that one would wish to be associated with.
If you have never seen or met Mr Masinga, it may be fair to describe him as a fit and hardworking man. He has been a ‘pillar of strength and support’ to most of his peers and colleagues. Interestingly, he is a God loving family man, committed to his 30-year marriage that blessed him and his wife with three children (two girls and a boy). His family is settled in Snathing, an area within the Edendale, a township in UMgungundlovu District Municipality, Pietermaritzburg. The Masinga family boast and cherish a healthy and religious family life with the Imfihlakalo Yesiphambano Church that is based in France, an area next to Ridge Park, Pietermaritzburg.
According to Carlos Ghosn, “Any job very well done that has been carried out by a person who is fully dedicated is always a source of inspiration.” In his farewell message Director: Supply Chain Management – Mr Pravesh Ballaram said Mr Masinga’s departure will “leave a huge void in the department as he was one of the dedicated employee with great respect and humility for all colleagues”.
The Director also said if it was according to him he would not have approved Mr Masinga’s retirement. On behalf of the entire Public Works family, we say good-bye and happy retirement!
