Change the mindset and grab available opportunities, MEC Nkonyeni tells Gamalakhe Township youth

MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Honourable Peggy Nkonyeni has started an initiative to provide relevant information for Gamalakhe Township youth on empowerment and skills development. In a Community Outreach Programme held on 19 January 2020 at Gamalakhe Community Hall, MEC Nkonyeni said the objective of the outreach programme was to “empower local youth with valuable information on skills for growth and development” thus encouraging them to “change their mindset and grab available opportunities” presented by invited stakeholders. Various stakeholders presented about Manufacturing Sector and Enterprise Development; Training and Entrepreneurship; Fabrication of Material; Technical Vocational Education and Training Colleges; Opportunities in the Film Industry and those available in the Government initiated Operation Vula Economic Empowerment presented by the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs.

MEC Nkonyeni also stated, “the aim of this initiative is to stimulate township economy by empowering young people to be at the focal point in growing the local economy”. Addressing the youth, MEC Nkonyeni said, “there are various opportunities available for youth empowerment which include tourism and tourist attraction as well as generating income through waste management”. She said as community leaders, they will provide all necessary support and that it was up to the youth to grab these opportunities and make use of the effectively.
