Ilembe District Launches Healthy Lifestyle Programme

On 9 October 2020 Ilembe District held a successful launch of the Healthy Lifestyle Campaign and Programme at Vianne Youth and Child Care Centre in Montobello, Ward 6 of Ndwedwe Local Municipality.

The launch was a joint Programme of the office of the MEC Operation Sukuma Sakhe Champion, Ilembe District Municipality, Ndwedwe Local Municipality, Department of Sports and Recreation, Department of Health, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Social Development and lastly the Vianney Youth and Child Care Centre.

The aim of the Programme is to promote healthy lifestyle living, eating well-balanced protein rich food and also physical activity in the form of exercise. Ilembe District Municipality Mayor Councillor Dolly Shandu officiated at the launch which saw a 25-items sport pack donated to the centre (VYCC) as well as gardening and agricultural inputs such as bean and maize seedlings, hand hoe, a watering can and fertilizer. In addition, 10 local families were also handed over Social Relief Distress Food Grant whilst the Health Department conducted screening on the attendees and guests. The event was attended by Councillors and other stakeholders.

An aerobics class exercise was conducted by Department of Sports and Recreation and the Centre management including Sisters and children under their care as well as officials from various Departments participated in the aerobics class.
