"Get Set, Ready, Go!" It is Back to Business for MEC Jomo Sibiya

Time is against us. While the Covid-19 pandemic keeps the country on its toes, so does the provincial economic sector. On Saturday 29 May 2021, around 13:00, MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Mr. Jomo Sibiya MPL, led a provincial government delegation, joined by staunch members of the Progressive Professionals Forum as well as representatives from the Independent Media at an economic but introspective and goal-directed session. The occasion took place at the Public Works’ Archie Gumede Conference Centre, in Mayville, Durban.

The day’s programme outlined key aspects that related to debatable but fathomable talking points such as a reflection on the state of economy in KwaZulu-Natal; infrastructure revolution and role of professionals; immovable asset management; infrastructure management; economic services and what money means to the ordinary. The session was not ‘just-a-show-off’ but it displayed MEC Sibiya’s keenness of doing what best a man in the ‘public service’ can do for the betterment of the citizenry.

Deliberations shared on the day served a cornerstone in addressing key strategic roles to be played by professionals in ensuring effective infrastructure and housing delivery in KwaZulu-Natal. This is part of government’s stimulus intervention to boost the economy while improving the condition of the people of the Province. The state of economic inequality in the province seems to be a catalyst and encouragement to change. Unlike in the case of income, it tends to be evident that hardly any households are average when it comes to wealth peace.

One would therefore agree that there is now a substantial evidence to suggest how a significant negative effect the economic inequality has on well-being. Now that MEC Sibiya has been thoughtful to the core to ignite tangible change, there is a glimmer of hope – patience is key at this stage. His efforts affirm a desire to encourage entrepreneurs to take risks and set up new business goals. It is ever a reality that without the prospect of substantial rewards, there would be little incentive to take risks and invest in new business opportunities. As long as MEC Jomo Sibiya comes with such great opportunities, one has to take such with open arms. One would need to utilise these opportunities with diligence and goal-directedness. Failing which, on second thoughts, the next fellow will take these moments and the children of the province will continue to suffer. Sessions of this nature make one to realise the essence of team effort in nation building. Mr Jomo Sibiya’s mind-set, decisions and support will eventually give renewed impetus to the economic regeneration of the province
