MEC for KZN Human Settlements and Public Works Mr Sibongiseni Ntuthuko Sibiya addressing Public Works employees during his visits to all the districts

The newly sworn in MEC for KZN Human Settlements and Public Works Mr Sibongiseni Ntuthuko Sibiya did not waste any time in hitting the ground running and took to all the KZN Public Works offices from 06 April 2021. The aim of the visits was firstly for the MEC to introduce himself to employees and acquaint himself with the geographical location of all the Public Works offices.

The first visit was to Amajuba, uThukela and uMzinyathi Districts where the MEC was welcomed by management and staffers. In his opening and welcoming speech, Acting Head of Department Mr Sboniso Majola explained that the MEC was eager to meet the people who are doing the actual work on the ground. MEC took to the podium and expressed his enthusiasm in looking forward to working for the department hand in hand with the employees. “As a collective we have a huge task at hand in making sure that this department is able to deliver infrastructure for the people of this province and I am confident that we can achieve this as I can already see that in you I have a very capable and disciplined team,” MEC proclaimed. The MEC then took to Head Office where he first met with management then subsequently addressed members of staff. “I am overwhelmed and a bit intimidated to meet the core of the department however I am also certain that we will work well together as a team in accomplishing all our goals moving forward.” The third visit was at Ugu, Harry Gwala and uMgungundlovu Districts. In his address Sibiya received a warm welcome with song and dance outside the uMgungundlovu District offices, “Out of all the offices that I have paid visits to, this one in particular gives me a real feel of what Public Works is all about as there is currently construction on site and there are gentlemen in overalls and protective gear, this makes me excited and makes me look forward to all the work we are going to do as a department,” MEC said. The fourth visit was at eThekwini and iLembe Districts where staffers gathered at the Archie Gumede Conference Centre. “I am extremely proud to be standing in this state of art venue which was constructed by Public Works and is now utilized by all government departments, this structure as a true testament of the great work that we as a department are capable of,” Sibiya said with pride.

The visits to all districts were a huge success as MEC was going to wrap up at Zululand, uMkhanyakude and King Cetshwayo Districts.
