Making a Quality of Life Better for the Learners

It was Thursday 18 October 2018, at approximately 9:15 and the weather was quite cool but cloudy with no possibilities of rain, when Public Works officials, Messrs Mbongeni Xaba and Sibonelo Ntinga accompanied by the ‘Communication Team’ arrived at Bekezelani Junior Secondary School to deliver a set of computer equipment. The school is situated in Sqandulweni area, which is in the deep beautiful but natural slopey and mountainous parts of Ixopo. In approximately 15 minutes in waiting, an entourage led by Honourable Vivian Tambo, the Chairperson for the Quality of Life Standing Committee at the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature also arrived.

Mr Vezi, the school principal together with the educators, the parents and other guests assembled at the school’s entrance to welcome Mrs Tambo. The female learners, full of ‘zeal and zest’ eagerly formed a ‘guard-of-honour’ and later led the entire throng into the school premises in a ‘drum majorette’ display - as welcome gesture.

The computer equipment is a donation to the school, arranged through relevant office protocols of Public Works Head of Department and Ministry, coordinated by Mr Byron Pillay, the Department’s Director for Information Communication and Technology (ICT) at Head Office. Both Mbongeni and Sibonelo were on the day’s mission to setup the computers so that the learners would begin to making a quality of school life better for themselves. The computers will equip and improve their computer literacy and provide them a sense of warmth and moments of joy.
