On Monday, the 18th of March 2019, the Department of Public Works hosted a strategic planning Review workshop. All Senior Management Service (SMS), Middle Management Service (MMS), staff in supervisory posts and Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) as well as all line managers reporting to Regional Directors were in attendance, to deliberate on very crucial issues pertaining to the Department.
It is eminent for members of the Department to critically engage on matters of strategic importance as these could potentially aid the Department in fulfilling its mandate as well as its Vision and Mission. They were several matters that were raised and deliberated on during the session. These matters will serve as informative content for the 2019/2020 Annual Performance Plan, which is currently in its final year of implementation as per the Strategic plan 2015-2020.
The session was enlightening and gave an intense strategic review of where the Department is currently and where it should be. The seminar also gave a platform for members to make suggestions and critically acknowledge and debate on several strategic views. In essence the strategic seminar took the form of a structured conversation that enabled those present to advise within their scope of skills and capabilities. Indeed while gaps were identified, there were also arrangements and suggestions made to combat such.
