Well wishes to the nominees at the Premier’s Service Excellence Awards 2018/2019

Good news. On 17 October 2019, all roads will lead to the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban to witness, as the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works' team will be making its mark once more, targeting and gunning for the most prestigious and desirable award – the Gold Winner’s price.

As you may well recall that it has been confirmed and affirmed on the position of the department in the implementation of the Executive Council Resolution 282 of 21 August 2018, which reflects, inter alia, “Approved that all departments establish/ revive Batho Pele, Customer Care or Service Delivery units in all provincial departments to ensure successful implementation of Batho Pele Programmes at provincial and local level.”

It is therefore with profound appreciation and delight to announce that the nominees below have been shortlisted, and are ready to participate and compete at the Premier’s Service Excellence Awards (PSEA) 2018/2019.

a. Category 7: Best Batho Pele Team of The Year 2018/2019: UThukela District Office – Midlands Region
b. Category 5: Best Public Service Innovator of the Year 2018/2019: Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ) Gate Project: Mr Siphephelo Mhlongo: North Coast Region
c. Category 5: Best Public Service Innovator of the Year 2018/2019: Construction of Waterfall Combined Primary School Project: Indwedwe: Messrs Mack Sathanand & Shabbir Ismail: eThekwini Region

Credit to Mr Phiweyo Duma, the Deputy Director-General for Corporate Services and Chairperson of the Forum, who led the Batho Pele Forum with zeal and zest in ensuring that preparations to such a massive activity were conducted with diligence, commitment and professionalism. The continued support and dedication by Ms Philile Mbuyisa, Mr Zamo Zwane, Ms Thuthu Nkomo, Ms Fikile Luthuli and the ‘Communication Team’ has been overwhelming.

The PSEA Adjudicating Committee led by Mr Mafezwe Khanyile, Director for Service Delivery from the Office of the Premier in collaboration with Mr Vincent Mabunda, a senior representative from the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) – Service Delivery component, have been hard on work in conducting interviews around the province. Interviews and walk-about sessions for Public Works were conducted in July 2019 with the final interviews for UThukela District Office completed on Friday 30 August 2019.

We hope and trust that all endeavours will be fully injected to supporting the nominees for their commitment and desire to achieve the accolades whilst they will be lifting the Department’s flag high. Our best wishes are conveyed to the nominees. Let us support them as they prepare their portfolios of evidence and there is confidence that on 17 October 2019, our colleagues and the entire team from UThukela District Office will conquer. May there be success at every turn of preparations and that all their dreams come true. Here’s wishing you good luck for a bright and prosperous participation. You are the best.
