A Feminine Touch: Harry Gwala District Municipality Rekindled

Mrs. Dlamini, the Harry Gwala District Municipal Manager hosted and graced the 6th EPWP Focus Week on Tuesday 24 November 2020 at the District’s Council Chamber. She is one of a kind, who opted to rekindle Harry Gwala District Municipality and the ‘EPWP Focus Week’ in particular. She is a manager and a leader, accompanied by her representatives from other local municipalities within the District. Her participatory role sparked, stimulated and rekindled the “EPWP Focus Week’. She has to do it with that ‘woman or feminine touch’ in the business environment. Her presence really made a difference.

She is one amongst so many female government representatives in key positions within KwaZulu-Natal who raised the bar when she attended and participated for the full duration of the day’s programme. This is a very rare taste of experience taking into account the tight diary schedule people of her stature endure.

Our focus is the benefit that was added by Mrs. Dlamini’s presence during the session. She has been very clear, instrumental and well articulate during her interactions and discussions. Impressing enough was her support of embracing and lifting EPWP to its highest peak for the benefit of all so that KwaZulu-Natal and Harry Gwala District, for that matter, may begin to see peoples’ lives change for the better. Her feminine touch has indeed rekindled the EPWP Focus Week for the good of Harry Gwala District Municipality. She has set a positive tone indeed – she has been very decisive, assertive and displayed her independence.

The media was on high alert recently, with the persisting imbalance of women in positions of power in the country which has started a debate in the public and corporate world about the viability of a gender quota so that there is the encouragement of gender equality in the business world, both public and private. Despite the growing numbers of women elected in the public office we may still be confronted with a significant number of women that remains underrepresented in the leadership positions. The assertion is for another day and platform though. There is always a first time in life.
