MEC Sibiya Tabled His Maiden Budget Speech 2021/22

It was Thursday 20 May 2021 at 9:00 when the Honourable MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Mr Ntuthuko Mbongiseni Sibiya MPL, tabled his inaugural Budget Speech 2021/22 at the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature in Pietermaritzburg. The occasion comes after 87 political man-days completed by MEC Sibiya since his appointment as executive member in Premier Sihle Zikalala’s cabinet. In the same vein, the event has also been moving on a significant wave of service delivery pattern that has been displayed by Mr Sibiya since he assumed his duties. To mention a few highlights of excellence are the MEC Sibiya’s Interactive Roadshows with Management and Staff from both Departments (Human Settlements and Public Works), the Siyahlola Programme - that has gained ground in affirming his gradual progress in effecting developmental change and transformation within various communities, but targeting more on schools infrastructure.

Amongst senior members of the department’s management team who accompanied MEC Sibiya as he delivered the policy speech are Ms Xolile Ntanzi, the Acting Deputy Director-General for Immovable Assets, Mr Majola – the Acting Head of Department, Mr Phiweyo Duma – the Deputy Director-General for Corporate Services, Mr Jeremy Redfearn – the Chief Financial Officer and Mr Skhumbuzo Shabangu – the Director in the Office of the Head of Department.

“Each day, I am learning the rules of the game” said Mr Sibiya as he unpacked his presentation. The narrative is that MEC Sibiya upholds the importance and necessity of his interactive engagement with management and staff, all stakeholders and role players that seek to advance a prosperous Public Works that will achieve its projected infrastructure development and enhance the participation of much needed capacity within the construction industry for the benefit of KwaZulu-Natal and its economy. It is without doubt that MEC Sibiya begins to display and execute his agility, style, wisdom, brilliance and diligence within his busy work schedule. He also brings along a variety of his political experience to his role and work in order to achieve a broad range of responsibilities for the success of the two portfolios he serve while his focus is at preparing a better future for the citizenry of KwaZulu-Natal.
