Contractor Training for Disability Sector

The Youth, Women, Persons with Disabilities and Military Veterans Directorate started 2022 in full force as they hosted one of the many training sessions for the Disability Sector scheduled for the next months to come. The purpose of the training is to equip persons with disabilities with the necessary information and knowledge on how to register on a departmental database and how to fill in tender documents.

The Eyesizwe Contractor Development Programme (ECDP) phase three database has 12 disable contractors, noticing the lack of numbers of disabled persons on ECDP, the Department came up with an initiative to train emerging contractors and those who have an interest to venture into the construction business, in order to access opportunities. The Department has prioritized the following projects for the designated group the Youth, Women, Persons with Disabilities and Military Veterans that are registered on the Eyesizwe programme:

  • Fencing programme
  • Water and Sanitation programme
  • Schools Storm damage programme
  • Maintenance programme
  • Repairs and Renovations
  • Electrification programme
  • Upgrades and Additions
  • Boreholes

The training sessions covered topics such as How to enrol in the Eyesizwe Contractor Development Programme, Guided stapes on how to register on the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and the importance of registering with the board. Filling of the bid document and issues relevant to emerging contractors and the training emphasis on the importance of proper prizing the Bill of Quantities because “cheap is expensive” as Mr M. Mnguni a Professional Quantity Surveyor from the North Coast Region said as he was taking the participants through the proper steps and methods of prizing.

To lay a good foundation of insightful knowledge, the workshops started at these three District Municipalities, Harry Gwala District, Zululand District and King Cetshwayo District.
