KZN Public Works Teams Battle For Victory At Departmental Sports Day

Department of Public Works sporting family show-cased their athletic capabilities at Richard’s Bay during the Departmental Sports Day recently. All Regions and Head Office players descended on the Veld en Vlei Sport Complex.

On arrival at the sporting venue, players were in high spirits and excited that the day they have been waiting for had finally arrived. Mr Musa Mkhize who is the Chairperson of the Departmental Sports Committee officially opened the games.

From the onset, the players were eager to battle it out on the fields for the championship title. The participating teams were soccer (male and female) and the netball. These teams proved that their selection was purely on merit as they displayed unbelievable talents. Despite such talents, some good teams were eliminated and the ‘best of the best’ progressed to the final stages of the tournament.

The day was a huge success with amazing performances displayed at this extremely close fought contest. The winning teams received their trophies during a much-anticipated prize giving ceremony. The winners burst into song and dance as they celebrated their victory. The winners were the Ladies Soccer team from eThekwini Region, Men’s Soccer team from North Coast Region and the defending champions for the Netball team from the Head Office who took the cup home once again.

Regular exercise contributes positively towards employee productivity and promotes healthy bodies and healthy minds hence the Department promotes sports within the workplace. It also contributes towards boosting morale. In this regard, the workplace can be an effective setting to integrate sports and other physical activities. Departmental Sports Days are hsoted on a quarterly basis.

The Departmental Sports Committee expressed its appreciation to management for continued support, to all participants for their enthusiasm and to all those who worked behind the scenes to ensure the success of the tournament.
