MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Mr Ravi Pillay and Mrs Sindi Linda; DDG: Immovable Asset Management present a gift from the Department of Public Works to Mr Godfrey Dlamini and his wife.
On 19 September 2017, the Department of Public Works held the Long Service Awards and retirement ceremony for all staff members who have been a part of the public service for 10 years and longer. The Long Service Recognition System recognises employee’s long relationship with the Public Service. Many of the recipients had received awards for working in the Public Service for over 20 years and some even over 35 years. As the recipients of the awards gathered for the event the excitement and joy of our public servants was tangible. The recipients were beautifully dressed for the occasion and excited for being honoured for their service.
The event was graced by the presence of the MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Mr Ravi Pillay who acknowledged the contribution of public servants in delivering services to the people of KwaZulu-Natal. “Many of you came here when you were young and started your families in this department, we do not underestimate the meaning of your time and your life” said the visibly excited MEC. He also shared the celebration of each person presented and thanked them dearly for their dedication and loyalty to the public service. The MEC further emphasised that each person’s hard work has not gone without being noticed.
One of the event highlights was the honouring of Mr Godfrey Dlamini who retired in 2016 after serving in the public service for over 35 years. Mr Dlamini was honoured and showered with gifts by the department. His former colleagues applauded Mr Dlamini for always maintaining a professional etiquette.

The day was filled with many insightful talks about the importance of time and using it wisely. The staff was also encouraged to be disciplined in their areas of service. In essence, each one of public servants are hardworking individuals who commit themselves daily to serve and better our nation.
The Department of Public Works congratulates each and every recipient and thanks them for being exemplary for future generations.
