A New Beginning For the KZN Department of Public Works and Infrastructure

ETHEKWINI: On Monday, 24 June 2024, the KZN MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure Mr Martin Meyer hit the ground running when he met with top management during a Special Extended Management Committee (MANCO) meeting held at the Archie Gumede Conference Centre in Mayville, Ethekwini.
Addressing a throng of Government technocrats the MEC provided a clear direction and guidance on immediate short-term strategies and solutions to be implemented in a quest to address challenges facing the Department.

Additionally, the MEC unpacked in great detail the goals and expectations of the recently established Infrastructure Portfolio which will further enhance the daily operations of the Department. “Government is moving in a new direction of cooperative governance, it is therefore important for us to embrace the exciting task ahead to rebuild the province and work together in serving the community of KwaZulu-Natal,” said MEC Meyer. Amongst other things, the MEC will also be conducting a skills audit exercise and reinforce the implementation of consequence management across all categories of staff.
In addition, the MEC seeks to solicit long-term solutions for the ageing infrastructure as he plans to repurpose redundant, underutilized, and abandoned government buildings for the benefit of the people of KwaZulu-Natal.
