The IMTS (Infrastructure Maintenance and Technical Support) Infrastructure Delivery held a fruitful meeting at Head Office; Pietermaritzburg, KZN Public Works and Infrastructure. The high-level discussions are centred around the progress of specifically identified projects, expenditure, challenges and mitigation interventions. The acting Deputy Director General, acting Chief Director and Professionals from the IMTS unit are tasked with resolving backlogs in the delivery of critical infrastructure such as hospitals, schools and clinics. Additionally, the meeting will determine the legal actions that should be taken against contractors who are underperforming and those who produce substandard work. The meeting is scheduled during a period in which the department has adopted a resolute posture against contractors who fail to meet its expectations and deliver substandard work.
The department’s acting Head of Department (HoD), Dr Vish Govender, has emphasised that the department’s key focus for the year will be the prioritisation of delivering infrastructure projects to client departments on time.
