KZN Works

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPW&I) continues to make immeasurable strides towards providing practical training and skills development to various beneficiaries across the province.

On 11 August 2026 greatness gathered in one room under the banner of WOMAN!

The newly formed all-women advisory body, She Builds, led a dialogue with women in the construction sector at the head office of KZN Public Works and Infrastructure auditorium to engage them on the various issues and matters women are still faced with, many which prevent them from thriving in the male-dominated construction sector.

Exclusive gatekeeping networks, outdated legislation, discrimination from financial institutions and being seen as easy targets by criminals are among the several obstacles women still face despite living in a modern democratic dispensation.

Recommendations include introducing tenders exclusively reserved for women contractors, CIDB assisting the department in achieving set aside projects, prioritising skills development through a formal incubation programme,

A pathway forward includes fair procurement, digital enabling systems, ongoing skills development and support, among other initiatives.
