Day 2 of KZN Public Works and Infrastructure’s Strategy Planning session

MEC Martin Meyer addressed department officials gathered in Durban on the importance of such strategic gatherings for a department which wants to continue achieving growth.

MEC Meyer inspired the dedicated officials by reminding them that the department’s mandate directly impacts the lives of the people of this province because it is through this mandate that tangible life-changing assets like schools, clinics and hospitals are realized. The MEC also recognized all the officials as individual custodians of their line of work as per their qualifications and role in the department.

This echoed similar sentiments of appreciation by Head of Department, Dr Vish Govender, who said the department would continue to tirelessly work to retain its growth trajectory, upskill employees and continue to monitor financial performance.

Such strategy sessions have allowed KZN Public Works and Infrastructure to achieve many great things such as rooting out corruption, tightening internal controls, reducing irregular expenditure from R700 million to R0.

Our work is not done, however, because there are many challenges that KZN Public Works and Infrastructure is aware of, like the issue of rates, building leases, strengthened client relations and legislation compliance.

Under the NEW KZN Public Works and Infrastructure every challenge is an opportunity to implement a meaningful impact to the ordinary people who rely on our optimal functionality in order to walk into new classrooms and learn, walk into new clinics and be attended to and walk into new hospitals and get dignified medical care as enshrined in the South African constitution.

Our FIRST EVER CLEAN AUDIT was just the start.  The next chapter promises to be better, as the department continues to build up and build KZN better.
