
Amajuba District officials were thrilled to meet the Acting Head of Department Mr Thulani Mdadane during Operation Shonaphansi which was held on 17 October 2017. Despite his busy schedule of the day, Mr Mdadane spared some time with Amajuba District officials greeting them in their respective offices. Officials displayed great appreciation to have this precious moment of shaking hands with HOD and updating him about their everyday work.
Mr Mdadane visited this office during Operation Shonaphansi where the departmental management from various sections within the department rolled up their sleeves and embarked on a campaign to go out to projects. Midlands Region team; led by the HOD and Midlands Regional Director Mr Gcina Hadebe was scattered throughout the region to have a sense of what expanded public works is all about.


One of the projects visited was Siyamukela High School in Newcastle; Madadeni area where the department is doing repairs and renovations. This project has created employment opportunities and transferred skills to local community members with the main aim of reducing the level of poverty. Twenty – one community members have benefited from this project through Expanded Public Works Programme. Mr Zazi Vincent Nkosi from Madadeni area confirmed that this project has indeed been helpful in his life. “The stipend I get here has helped me to feed my children and I am grateful to the Department”. Mr Nkosi said.
The team then visited Sizanani Secondary School in Osizweni where the department is doing upgrades and additions. In all projects visited; the local community is benefitting through Expanded Public Works Programme which is a government programme aimed at alleviation of poverty and unemployment.
