The achievement was announced by Head of Department, Dr Vish Govender, during the department’s monthly Infrastructure Committee meeting. The significant reduction forms part of MEC Martin Meyer’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure delivery and strengthening project oversight across the province.

With less than 18 projects now classified as stalled or delayed, the department is working around the clock to get the remaining projects back on track. At the same time, the department will continue to address key challenges, including poor contractor capacity, substandard workmanship, and disruptions caused by unscrupulous business forums.

These achievements come as the department has for nine consecutive months paid all contractor invoices on time, reinforcing the department’s commitment to financial prudence and delivering infrastructure on time.
To prevent future project delays, the department has adopted a proactive approach by convening monthly infrastructure oversight meetings to closely monitor the progress of every project across KwaZulu-Natal. Dr Govender will also continue conducting regular site visits to assess progress, identify risks early, and ensure projects remain on schedule.

This week, MEC Martin Meyer is expected to unveil further plans to accelerate infrastructure development in the province during the department’s upcoming Budget Speech.
