KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works continues to pride itself in ensuring that the pockets of successes and excellence in sustaining “Operation Sukuma Sakhe” since its inception continue with minimal blockages.

Programme Director for the day: Mrs Seni Majola
Lukhele, the KZN Public Works’ Structural Inspector
This time it was a trip by the KZN Public Works’ Umzinyathi District to eSethu High School, an educational facility situated far in the rural area of KwaMazabeko which is also next to KwaMahlaba, in Pomeroy. It has been observable and admired by virtue of positive results that Umzinyathi District Office carries the Public Works flag as we continue to inculcate for the KwaZulu-Natal youth on the relevance of the National Construction Week. This is a programme that seeks to continue raising awareness and equally arousing interest to pupils who are still at their prime time of making informed choices when about to complete their respective final Grade levels when ready to entering the tertiary sector.

The event commenced at approximately 10:30 under a well-structured and coordinated programme directed by Ms Seni Majola Lukhele, a Public Works’ Structural Inspector who is based in the Greytown offices.

The event commenced with an opening prayer delivered by Mr Chonco, also a Public Works official based in the Umzinyathi District. After a prayer sermon, Mr Khoza, the principal for eSethu High School delivered a welcoming address.

A brief overview and objective of the
occasion was delivered by Mr Hlomuka, the

thereafter the introduction of the school
educators was conducted by Mr Khoza and
that of Public Works’ officials and other
representatives from other institutions was
done by Ms Sne Msane.
As the programme unfolded, the key
speakers were proffered an opportunity to
make presentations in respect of their
respective work expertise. On the roll was
Mr Ndlovu, a technologist also from Public
Works. Mr Ndlovu provided detailed and
elaborative information to school children
so for them to make informed career
choices.

Mr T Ndlovu, a technologist from Public Works also had
his fair share to make a presentation for the pupils.
The school currently caters for a total of
376 both males and females learners with
13 educators behind the driving seat of
education successes of the school. The
school also covers its current curriculum for
academic year from Grade 7 to 12
respectively.
Another presentation was by Ms Kunene
from the Department of Transport within
the Cost Centre. Her presentation focused
more on road infrastructure. Her emphasis
was mainly on raising awareness and
interest on the part of the students to make
better career choices.
It should be mentioned that the crux of the
National Construction Week is actually
aimed at arousing interest to school pupils
in attracting and instil in them the urge to
choose infrastructure curriculum. Mr
Mvelase also from the Department of
Transport within the Umzinyathi District
also provided a presentation that also
responds to the industry.

She emphasised more to the learners on the importance of choosing Public Works as a destination of choice for a career growth as well as on the basis of expertise and learning capabilities that the students should have in order to achieve the best.

Ms Winnie Hadebe from Public Works within the
Bursary Unit also shared the podium with other
presenters
The Department of Education was represented by Ms Gigaba within the Infrastructure Management Services Directorate who also had her fair share of inculcating the need and eagerness on the part of the students in doing more hard work in achieving the best.

Ms Gigaba from the Department of Education’s
Infrastructure Management Services Directorate also
had to beat her piano.
The order of the day resulted with a brief site visit or tour within the built infrastructure of the school. In closing Mrs Ntokozo Mbatha-Ngcobo, the District Manager for Umzinyathi District gave a vote of thanks in wrapping the day’s event.
