EPWP
EPWP is a government initiative to ensure the opportunities and capacity building of targeted groups, through infrastructural development. 6649 Job opportunities have been created in 09/10 financial year. EPWP Phase two focuses on job creation but on sustainable jobs, there are 593 full time equivalent ( FTE’s ) job created in 09/10 financial year.
The Department of Public Works North Coast Region is committed to ensure the enforcement of Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). The National Youth Service Programme, a skilled development programme which is one of the sub-programme of the infrastructure sector of EPWP. In North Coast region 42 NYS phase 1 learners have benefited on this programme , they have completed both in class and practical training.10 NYS phase I have secured permanent job as bricklayers in various projects and companies .
3 NYS phase 2 carpentry learners have been absorbed at Eshowe Mortuary as carpenters. EPWP strives to be the leaders in job creation through implementation of labour intensive. Izandla ziyagezana Programme from Property Management is also contributing to job creation. Currently there are 61 contractors appointed in Izandlaziyagezana – 16 in North Coast Region.
