The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure held its quarterly Infrastructure Maintenance and Technical Support (IMTS) meeting on Tuesday, 26 May 2026 at the Archie Gumede Conference Centre in Mayville to assess the progress of infrastructure projects in the second quarter of 2026/2027. The IMTS team also evaluate infrastructure status updates for all projects, including planned projects, active projects on-site, and delayed and cancelled projects. KZN Public Works and Infrastructure MEC, Martin Meyer, officially opened the meeting and praised the staff for significantly lowering the department’s stalled infrastructure projects. MEC Meyer also highlighted to the team of professionals from the build environment, that the administration’s goal was to make KZN Public Works and Infrastructure the province’s sole implementing agent. This is as the department has recorded improved project turnaround times and improved quality of projects on most active construction sites across regions and districts. These developments coincide with the department’s efforts to improve worker safety during ‘Building Safety Month.’
