KZN Public Works Hosts The National Capacity Building Forum

ETHEKWINI: On 8 to 9 May 2024, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works hosted the National Capacity Building Forum meeting at Riverside Hotel in Durban. The Forum is chaired by Ms CJ Abrahams; Deputy Director General; Professional Services at Department of Public Works and Infrastructure and is attended by Senior Managers from Provincial Public works Departments and Department of Public Works and Infrastructure entities namely: Council for the Built Environment (CBE), Infrastructure South Africa (ISA), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

This strategic forum forms a pivotal point of liaison for National and Provincial Public Works Departments and entities in the built environment. It is on this platform where matters relating to skills development , performance reports are discussed. The forum also enables members to share best practices , develop and review policies and framework documents that give strategic direction and implementation on implementation, monitoring and evaluation of capacity-building programmes. The main objective is to capacitate Public Works sector with technical skills in order to succeed in delivering its mandate in line with the Infrastructure Development Act and GIAMA.
The two-day forum was facilitated by the Chairperson, Ms CJ Abrahams and was officially opened by Mr SG Blose; Ethekwini Regional Director. In his opening and welcoming remarks Mr Blose highlighted the significance of this forum. “We can never over-emphasize the importance of having a skilled workforce, that is why we are relying on you to build that capacity through your professional bodies and professional spaces,” said Blose.
The successful conclusion of the forum meeting was an attestation that it is indeed a platform advocating for transformation in the built environment through inclusivity.
