KZN PUBLIC WORKS REMAINS COMMITTED IN FORMING FRUITFUL PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE BENEFIT OF EMERGING CONTRACTORS

ETHEKWINI: On Monday 23 May 2024, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works in partnership with Corobrik, hosted a Capacity Building Workshop for Emerging Contractors at Archie Gumede Conference Centre in Mayville, Durban.
The purpose of this workshop is to assist emerging contractors and equip them with the relevant knowledge and skills they require in order to grow as contractors. In his opening and welcome speech, Mr Mazwi Mcanyana; EThekwini District Director, reiterated the importance of this workshop, “As a District Office we are more interested and focused on growing emerging contractors currently operating at Grade 1 and Grade 2, which is why we host such trainings because we wish to see you grow to higher grades one day,” said Mr Mcanyana.

The contractors were given a practical lesson by Corobrik which runs non-profit Bricklaying Training Centres which are accredited Trade Test centres that offer training to the general public, government-appointed students.
The lesson focused on the following:
Bricklaying
Different types of bricks
Profiling
Different types of sand
Gauge Parameters
Cavity walls
The day concluded with the handing over of certificates to the attendees for their active participation.
