KZN Public Works Successfully Hires New Employees

The Head of Department Dr Gaster Sharpley warmly welcomed 54 new employees hired by the
KZN Department of Public Works on 17 October 2019 at the Auditorium, Oliver Tambo Building.
The Department advertised 139 vacancies and to date 54 appointments were achieved.
The newly appointees looked excited and eager to join the Public Works family. The event started
with HOD introducing senior management members individually to the new employees. Talking
direct to the newly appointed employees the HOD said, “Take decisions that are in the best
interest of the Department and conduct yourself in a manner that will allow you to grow.” He
cautioned newly appointees to be careful about spending money wisely. The HOD further
appealed to the employees to treat others with respect in a professional environment, “Never
underestimate where you come from and never undermine other people at work.” He concluded
by wishing everyone well on their new duties and encouraged them to work hard.

Corporate Services Deputy Director General, Mr Phiweyo Duma handed over letters of appointments to all new employees. The employees got an exceptional opportunity for a group image with senior management members. The appointed officials are for Southern Region, eThekwini, Midlands, North Cost and Head Office. They will fill positions in the Professional Skills (Mechanical, Quantity Surveying, Production, Electrical, Structural) and administrative duties.
