The MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Martin Meyer conducted an oversight visit to Celani Primary at Amajuba District Municipality on Tuesday, 21 April 2026. The department is building a new school consisting of all facilities and amenities required for a fully functional school that provides a conducive teaching and learning environment.
The project will include 21 classrooms, a media centre, a multi-sport facility and a computer room. This is infrastructure delivery that makes a real difference for learners in KwaZulu-Natal.
On the same day, MEC Meyer visited Newcastle Regional Hospital where the department is delivering infrastructure upgrades that directly support the safety of mothers and their babies.
Work on site includes the installation of security systems, improved fire detection and prevention systems, and the conversion of boilers to energy-efficient heat pumps.
This is part of the department’s effort in ensuring that the buildings where life begins are safe, functional and fit for purpose.
