KZN Works

to gauge the extent to which the state of the premises affects people living with disabilities. KZN Public Works and Infrastructure has a mandate to maintain the upkeep of provincial government assets, while KZN Social Development operates from our premises to offer much-needed social services.

The important visit to Nduduzweni Centre for the Blind and the Amaweleni SASSA offices follows a meeting held earlier with a local NGO that represents people with disabilities. During the briefing and walkabout, it was discovered that the facilities were in need of upkeep and attention areas such as roof leakages, air conditioning systems and ramps for ease of accessibility. From here, the two departments will sit down and find a way forward.

MEC Meyer stressed that the department is currently engaged with a string of NGOs in the Province as part of a joint approach initiative. He also shared the open invite to any NGO with a good cause that benefits communities to come forward and work together with all relevant stakeholders in finding a common benefit where suitable buildings and assets are involved.

MEC Meyer also revealed that the KZN Public Works and Infrastructure has spearheaded the interests of people living with disabilities through the departmental job application, which caters strictly for people with disabilities.
