ETHEKWINI: The MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Mr Sipho "KK" Nkosi has once more directed government technocrats to expand promotion of Women Empowerment in KwaZulu-Natal.

This came to light on Thursday, 25 April 2024, when the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works (DPW) in partnership with the South Africa Women in Construction (SAWIC) hosted a Women Empowerment Intervention Meeting. The purpose of the meeting held at the Archie Gumede Conference Centre in Mayville, Durban was to impart valuable skills and knowledge to women-owned emerging businesses.

Presentations offered by relevant stakeholders included the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), KZN Public Works: Immovable Assets and Supply Chain Management, respectively.

DPW's Director: Youth, Women, People with Disabilities and Military Veterans, Ms Delisile Mncube urged all women attendees to expand their horizons by not only focusing on construction, but also venture into other sectors such as Property Management. “We would like to see transformation where women tap into the property sector, which would be a game changer,” said Ms Mncube.

Subsequent to a string of presentations, a question and answer session ensued where attendees were given an opportunity to ask clarity-seeking questions on all presentations for the day.

Such initiatives are an attestation that KZN Public Works continues to provide support to designated groups in a quest to produce confident and successful business women in a male-dominated construction industry.
