KwaZulu-Natal MEC Hon. Martin Meyer and a team of departmental officials visited the Mahlakwe Community in Ward 7 as part of Operation Sukuma Sakhe on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
The visit identified pressing community needs including access to clean water, road infrastructure, and connectivity. The team also visited Mahlakwe Primary School, where an additional classroom, gas stoves for school meals, and a new administration building are urgently needed.
The Department is committed to working across government to ensure these needs are escalated to the relevant departments. A local youth-run poultry business was visited, with commitments made to connect the young entrepreneurs with the support they need to grow.
