The Nelson Mandela International Day is celebrated worldwide in honouring our South African icon Mr Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. The objective of this day is to help change the world for the better by contributing 67 minutes of your time. Southern Region management and staff members celebrated this day by cooking food for the 200 local children who usually come to this place after school, cutting grass and planting seeds. They also contributed an amount of R4500,00 to buy other items including gifts for the centre. The Southern Regional Manager, Mr Thobuyise Mchunu handed over gifts to these children and in his speech explained to them about the importance of celebrating this day. He also thanked the staff members by making a Mandela Day a success. Children were very excited when Mr Mchunu was handing over the gifts and responded positively on the questions asked by him about Mandela Day.

Nalini Naidoo who is a manager for the centre thanked the Department of Public Works for their donation. “On behalf of Mayibuye Drop In Centre and Child Welfare I would like to thank the Department of Public Works for sacrificing their time and money to assist our centre, we feed about 200 children per day and sometimes we do not get enough funding, this contribution will really make a difference” she said.
