Public Works’ Southern RegionOffice promotes planting of “indigenous” trees

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works’ Southern RegionOffice responded positively to a call made by the Provincial Government in support of the national government on planting indigenous trees in and around government buildings. This exercise did not come as a surprise when the Southern Region management made its mark byplanting 14 trees which were donated by the Wildlands Conservation Trust. The Southern Region management and personnel assembled in numbers, led by their Regional Manager Mr Thobuyise Mchunu and showed excitement and verve as they respectively had the opportunity to plant the trees

Mr MbongeniTshabalala, Assistant Manager EPWP confirmed that this commitment by the Department is in line with the resolution made in the Departmental Operations Meeting to implement Greening Project in all regional and district offices within and around the departmental buildings. “Wildlands Conservation Trust made these trees available so that we can plant them” said Mr Tshabalala.

This programme is a partnership led by KZN Office of the Premier which focuses on the greening activities; The Department of Public Works is coordinating the programme in the KwaZulu Natal province.The programme is an ideal Public Private Partnership (PPP) which involves the Wildlands Conservation Trust, Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs and Rural Development, Public Works, Economic Development and Tourism, Human Settlement and Msunduzi Municipality.
