KZN MEC For Public Works And Infrastructure Meets Departmental Staff

On Tuesday 7 May 2019, the Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) Unit organised a screening session for the departments’ workforce. The session was held at the department’s Head Office, Oliver Tambo House in Pietermaritzburg.

As one of its mandate of creating a healthy working environment and enhancing the quality of life for employees, the Sub-Directorate Employee Health and Wellness was hard at work to ensure that employees are afforded the quality health care services they require.

The screening session involved a variety of health related activities that have to be conducted meticulously and included amongst others: HIV screening, pap smear, glucose testing, high blood pressure, and cholesterol testing.

Due to healthy relations that the EHW Unit has established with external stakeholders, it has been a norm to invite some medics to exhibit and render their respective services for the benefit of employees. Amongst some key stakeholders who were present are; the Government Employees Medical Aid Scheme (GEMS) representatives who were quite of support to staff on matters that related to new/ update and termination of membership, payment and other packages.

Maima and Event Management (Pty) became the centre of attraction during the session. They stole the show as they got heavily busy with the providing of body massage to officials. Most officials who queued for the body massage voluntarily donated blood as a token of humanitarian support to the South African National Blood Services (SANBS). This gesture is of essence for the wellness screening session and serves the objective and value it deserves to benefit the potential beneficiaries across various communities, patients in various hospitals and during emergencies in the Province of KwaZulu-Natal.

The visit by the stakeholders deserves praises and complements, without overshadowing the efforts that the departments’ Employee Health and Wellness has put through to ensure that quality health care is ever available for a committed workforce.

This is just the beginning. There is still more on offer.
