KZN MEC For Public Works And Infrastructure Meets Departmental Staff

It is with pride to announce that two officials, namely Phumlani Mdlalose and Simiso Mathonsi, who have been through the departmental Internship Programme, have recently achieved their Professional Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).

The Department has the space to dedicate a specific period where youth will be harnessed and encouraged in choosing academic or tuition career in the construction and built industry with special focus to professional fields such as engineering, architecture, quantity surveying, etc. The rationale to taking such professions as a choice is to plug into economic and business gap that addresses scarce skills within the province and the country at large.

At his inauguration at Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria on 25 May 2019, President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa said “…and every person who wants to work will have a reasonable opportunity to find employment. We must be a society that values its young people by creating a conducive environment for them to gain skills and be productively employed to develop our country.”

Amid the challenges that life presents to humanity, all best wishes are extended to those officials members who continue to pursue in upgrading their academic status during this year and beyond.

Phumlani and Simiso are amongst all other young students who have been within the Internship Programme and successfully managed to realise their hard-earned dreams. Surely, the results did not just come that easy. Mathematics and science are emphasised. Engineering was their career of choice. A curricula or career field that involves a wide spectrum of study work extending from the conception, design, development and formulation of new systems and products through the implementation, production and operation of engineering systems. If well understood, the duo will probably often work closely with other professionals and contemporaries in developing new technology via infrastructure and possibly research projects.

They chose a dream that required efforts and passion. As they live in the present, they should look forward to the future. They now enter the new battlefields of life. May this achievement be just the beginning of a lifetime and fulfillment of your first hurdle. God willing, it must be a very proud moment for the two gentlemen. Good luck and congratulations!
