New Public Works Office Project Almost Complete For Occupation By Ilembe District Staff

KWADUKUZA: On Tuesday, 26 September 2023 the MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Mr Sipho “KK” Nkosi conducted yet another site inspection at the newly constructed Public Works offices in KwaDukuza under Ilembe District Municipality.

Upon completion of this project, the relocation of offices and staff members who are currently based at the KZN Public Works Ilembe District Office in KwaMaphumulo area, will resume. The new offices will provide a conducive working environment for relevant government employees who are tasked with a mammoth responsibility to ensure uninterrupted service delivery destined for the general electorate. 

The geographical location of this precinct boasts panoramic views of the KwaDukuza town which lies a few meters away from the office premises.  Documented Project Scope consists of the following:
❑32 Offices
❑2 Board rooms
❑3 ABET Lecture Rooms
❑1 Committee Room
❑A Generator room
❑A pump room
❑4 kitchenettes
❑Ablution facilities for staff
❑Refuse Area
❑Guard house
❑Retaining walls and 
❑New Fence
❑Associated site works (infrastructure) including Lift facilities
❑Ramp access to the building for people with disabilities

To date, a total of 12 work opportunities have been created under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). Recruitment of these beneficiaries was done through a transparent placement process where a Community Liaison Officer (CLO) representing the local community of ward 19 played oversight. 

The project is currently sitting at 94% and is due for completion before the end of December 2023. MEC Nkosi was amazed by the progress since his last visit in May this year and was taken aback by the stunning panoramic views and workmanship on this project.
