A Journey of 42 Years in the Public Service Draws to a Close For DDG Duma

Above: The outgoing Departmental Deputy Director – General, Corporate Services Mr Phiweyo Duma made his penultimate speech when colleagues bade farewell to him after serving in government for more than four decades

On Tuesday, 27 February 2024, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works' Deputy Director General: Corporate Services Mr Phiweyo Duma served for the last time as a Public Servant as he begins his retirement which is a whole new kind of life ahead.

Mr Duma has served in the Public Service for 42 solid years. He has been with the KZN Department of Public Works for 26 years. His administrative work ethic and integrity over the years has been unquestionable. The DDG took a resolve to selflessly serve the department, and did so with distinction.

On Tuesday, 27 February 2024, Departmental officials hosted a memorable Farewell and Retirement Party which was held in honour of this Government Administration giant. The day which was filled with lots of tears and laughter presented a bittersweet moment for all including family members present.

In his departing speech, Mr Duma who is a firm believer in humility and integrity said, “I am grateful for the support received over the years. I may be your DDG but I could have never succeeded in performing my duties without your support. Just like a bird that flies high in the sky, it never forgets that it will need to land on the ground for food and water.”

Today marks Mr Duma’s final day as a public servant. The staff compliment representing the Corporate Services Directorate welcomed him with a guard of honour which was characterised by great excitement, euphoria and maximum jubilation.
