DUNDEE RESEARCH STATION: It goes without saying that, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works is committed to its mandate of improving lives of the people of KwaZulu-Natal through sustainable infrastructure development and property management.

This became evident on Tuesday, 28 March 2023 when the Communications Team toured the project refurbishment site which is located in Dundee, a few kilometers outside the Central Business District.

The Midlands Region prides itself with the implementation of a departmental mandate as the construction and renovation of Dundee Research Station (DRS) of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development progresses positively despite some delays which emanated from unfavorable weather conditions as reported earlier in January 2023.

At this juncture, the project which is 38% towards completion harbors research facilities and offices of the client Department.

The scope of work designed for this project includes repairs and renovations to 20 existing residential units for staff members. It entails construction of new ablution block and repairs to the existing infrastructure as well as construction and installation of a Water Treatment Plant.

The budget of R14 038 429,50 including VAT has been set aside for this specific project. Suffice to mention that, at the end of February 3023, the project has seen the up-to-the-minute expenditure of R6 394 048.46.

Quoting from a succinct project profile, the actual project commenced on the 04 August 2022 with a completion date set for the 01 February 2024.

The DRS project boasts practical involvement and full participation demonstrated by all relevant stakeholders with a mindset to ensure that the project yields positive end-results.

The relevant community appreciates the project which has created a handful of work opportunities within the area and has further contributed towards skills development.

Moreover, the Department of Public Works has a mandate to strengthen coordination of all government infrastructure projects, therefore the strategic role of the department remains critical across all corners of KwaZulu-Natal.

These units form part of 20 houses under renovations at the Dundee Research Station of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development

The outstanding work performance displayed by the region is in line with the core function of the DPW around provision and maintenance through infrastructure development and property management.
