MEC Nkosi hails current progress registered as renovations proceed at Social Development Offices

ETHEKWINI: The MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Sipho "KK" Nkosi has a given a smart nod of approval to government technocrats for a sterling work being performed at the KZN Department of Social Development (DSD)Offices in Phoenix, northwest of Durban.

Under the auspices of a Departmental service delivery programme, dubbed Operation Siyahlola, the MEC was on Tuesday, 22 August 2023 joined by relevant Departmental officials, contractor representatives, professional team members and relevant stakeholders representing DSD and the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).

This high-level inspection which was conducted at a public facility is currently undergoing renovations, upgrades and structural additions valued at R30 204 598 million. The actual project currently sitting at 85% towards the finishing line is scheduled for completion by the 24 November 2023.

Given the project profile, the new office block under construction, will at the end, boast modern features which will create a conducive working environment for staff and the general electorate acquiring government services as and when required. More than 15 local job opportunities have been created under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) with its direct beneficiaries currently on site.

"I am pleased with the current status of this particular project and workmanship displayed, it means that we are on the right track and in full compliance with the service delivery mandate as promulgated by the Provincial Legislature," said MEC Nkosi.
