Background

The school has been earmarked for the community of ohlalwini after looking at the distance traveled by learners attending at Singose, Othobothini and Endabeni local school which are 
±-18 kilometers away from Ohlalwini Primary School. .Initially Ohlawani School has been established through donations requested by the community from Roman Catholic Church. Since the school was close by to the local houses. It eventually become overcrowded and the community made an outcry to the Department for the extension of classes in 2002.

  • The Project Steering Committee (PSC) has been established to address social issues main project are discussed and assist in the recruitment of unskilled local community.

The project is 60% complete; electricity & Water have been installed but not connected.

The project scope involves construction of new 12 classrooms ,5 laboratories , 1 media c 
The contract per project is 15 months.
The expenditure to date is amounting to R 4 036 909.56

Innovativeness of the project

The project is not necessarily EPWP defined but the elements are instilled through the employment of local labourers. The employees have been trained on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), HIV/AIDS and steel reinforcing.

NYS Placement

2 NYS learners’ phase 2, bricklaying & plastering have been extended practical training to March 2010.

Impact on the Community

Established (PSC) has intensified the hiring of unemployed local laborers with the aim of alleviating poverty and skill transfer’s objective.

15 local unskilled labours and 7 skilled bricklayers have been employed.

3 Local youth were trained on steel reinforcing, 2 local adults also trained in steel reinforcing and 2 NYS learners received practical training through NYS Programme.

Electrical work will be subcontracted.
